Avanquest is announcing the sale to Groupe Editor of Carteland, its subsidiary specializing in the online printing and sale of greeting cards and invitations, based in Aix-en-Provence.
This operation is part of Avanquest's new strategy, announced in December 2013 by Pierre Cesarini, the Group's Chief Executive Officer, with the aim of refocusing the Group on those of its businesses with the greatest potential for advancement. Two main avenues for growth were identified: connected devices and personalized digital design. In the latter area, mobility and web-to-print services (remote printing of photos and photo items) are already proven organic-growth drivers in the United States.
- Mobile-to-print services: Avanquest is bri nging mobility into photo-printing services in order to keep up with evolving consumer habits. With this new Mobile-to-print concept, invented and developed by Avanquest, the Group is the first to offer smartphone users the ability to print up to 1,000 professional-quality photos a year, very simply and free of charge. The FreePrints mobile app was launched with great success in the United States, France and the United Kingdom: more than 7 million photos have already been printed ! It will be available in Germany by late February.
- The web-to-print services developed by Avanquest based on a proprietary technology has experienced annual growth in sales of more than 60% over the last three years in the U.S. The American market has the greatest potential, especially in terms of media with high added value (smartphone shells, photo canvas, photo frames, etc.).
Selling off Carteland will give the Group additional financial maneuvering room to further develop these solid positions already acquired in mobility and the American market.
“Refocusing on our priority markets and differentiating ourselves through unique concepts and technologies are the core of the new strategy that we introduced last December 16th. That's why I want our efforts to be concentrated on our FreePrints app, which has achieved impressive success in just a few months in several countries, and on our web-to-print services in the United States, where organic growth is accelerating,”
according to Pierre Cesarini
, Avanquest's CEO.
Groupe Editor, a European leader in greeting cards, is making this acquisition with support from its key shareholder, FCDE (Fonds de Consolidation et de Développement des Entreprises). For Groupe Editor, the acquisition of a leading online player will speed development of its digital business. Furthermore, it will expand its geographic coverage in Europe with Germany and the Netherlands, where Carteland is also present.
“To pursue our growth, it was essential for us to complete our offer with an online sales service. The excellence of Carteland's teams, its customer dynamic and base and its geographic coverage will enable Groupe Editor to consolidate its position as leader in the market for the printing and distribution of greeting cards and invitations,”
adds Henry Condamine
, president of Groupe Editor.
